Good Monday morning to all! While doing my devotional time this morning, I caught a glimpse of what John's was about, so I picked it up and read it. I thought I would share it with you. Good stuff!
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. They are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. (Romans 3:23-24)
SAVED, NOT PERFECT
Romans 3:23-24 applies to far more than the initial salvation experience. When we come to faith in Christ we receive the gift of salvation, not the gift of perfection. On a daily basis, we continue to fall short of the glory of God and we continue to need His grace. This goes for our family life, too. The gospel is not only the means to entering into the spiritual life and relationship with God, it's also the means for continuing to live the Christian life, including family life. Especially family life.
Every family is made up of imperfect people. Realistic Christian parents understand this and know that one of our roles as parents is to train our children to obey the Scriptures rather than their sinful desires and to walk by the Spirit, not by the flesh. That being said, we need to constantly remind ourselves that God's response when we confess our sin is grace, not condemnation. So we should look for ways to demonstrate the grace of God as mush as His discipline.
YOU NEED IT TOO!
One way you can minister grace to your children is to tell them that you're not perfect either, and you need grace every day too. Without going into all the gory details of your sin, it's appropriate to let your kids know that you're a fellow traveler on the path of following Jesus. Then tell them how Jesus powers out His grace on us and rescues us for our sin.
BOTTOM LINE
Parenting is the task of one beggar teaching other (younger) beggars where to find food.
I thought this was so good. Everyone, including our kids needs His grace everyday! This momma does too! I'm NOT perfect!
