And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

Teachable Moments

This was part of my devotional this morning.

Whatever a man sows he will also reap...the one who sows to the Spirit will reap eternal life from the Spirit (Galatians 6:7-8).

Parenting is full of teachable moments, reminders that our children need instruction about the way in which they should go (Deuteronomy 6:1-9). When we deal with their struggles and triumphs, we're not just dealing with their actions and choices; we're dealing with their hearts. Sin points to our deeper spiritual need for the Savior. Instead of letting teachable moments pass by, or taking the easy way out by not addressing sin our children's lives or in our own lives, we need to remember there is more at stake than just this moment. We were made for eternity, and our choices can have an eternal impact. As you instruct your children in God's ways and His Word, look for opportunities to point them to Jesus the only One who can change their hearts.

Really good stuff! So true.
