And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

A Woman of God: Anna the Prophetess

As I have said before we are mainly naming Anna after my mother and other family members past, but I found a woman named Anna in the Bible that served God and was devoted to waiting for the messiah, Jesus. When Mary and Joseph brought Jesus to the temple to be dedicated (giving their child back to God) there was a man named Simeon who was waiting to see the Lord. He was certain that he would see the Messiah before he died. Another person was with him waiting, her name was Anna (she was another regular at the temple). Anna waited and prayed and believed that the Messiah would come. After she saw the Lord she spent her last eighty-four years serving as a prophetess. Anna discovered that God can make every passage of life meaningful and useful. Even after Simeon died, she had another way to serve even through her widow years. You can read about Anna in Luke 2:21-28

I love that! Yet another great reason to name her Anna. John and I pray that our Anna will open her heart to the gospel one day and be saved. We also pray that she will have a servant's heart just as Anna in the Bible did. Wholly devoted to serving God.
